Most Affordable P2P Compliance Solution Targeted at Community Colleges
LOS GATOS, CA , California — (Marketwire – May 25, 2010) —
Audible Magic Corporation has expanded its CopySense family of P2P compliance and educational solutions with a service specifically aimed at the needs of community colleges and other institutions with smaller networks and limited budgets. The CopySense Express service detects file sharing of copyrighted works as they occur and immediately informs the student that his/her unauthorized use of the network has been detected, leveraging the teachable moment. This service helps community colleges meet the mandates required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 with a low-cost solution.
The CopySense Express is designed for colleges and universities with network bandwidths of 50 mbps or less. This “plug and play” service can be up and running in most cases in less than 30 minutes. As a passive solution on a network, there is no impact on network performance or reliability. It is also an ideal solution for wireless networks. The service can be upgraded to Audible Magic’s patented Graduated Response™ system, which provides a graduated level of sanctions in response to unauthorized network usage, enabling institutions to start with warnings and gradually increase the level of sanctions for repeat offenses.
The CopySense Express can also work in conjunction with Audible Magic’s CopySense DMCA service, further maximizing existing budgets. The CopySense DMCA service automatically responds to and electronically processes DMCA notices, saving colleges and universities the laborious and expensive task of manually following up on notices.
According to Vance Ikezoye, founder and CEO of Audible Magic, “Compliance with the HEOA is mandatory for colleges and universities by July 1, 2010. Yet shrinking budgets have severely limited the ability of many of these institutions to respond with new compliance tools. Affordability is key. Our new CopySense Express service provides a low cost alternative for HEOA compliance upon which colleges and universities can build as their budgets increase.”
