LOS GATOS, California — February 3, 2002 — Audible Magic Corporation (www.audiblemagic.com), a leading provider of content management services for media industries, announced today that Video Monitoring Services of America, L.P. (VMS) has completed the initial phase of a nationwide deployment of the new Audible Magic ad detection system. One of the nation’s leading media monitoring companies, VMS’ initial deployment involves the top 8 U.S. cities and 24/7/365 coverage of 72 AM and FM radio stations.
Using Audible Magic’s broad set of technologies for identifying and managing audio content, the system automates the process of new ad identification, providing significant improvements beyond the quality and coverage of current industry practice.
Audible Magic’s system is integrated within VMS Advertising Services (www.vmsinfo.com), which is used by VMS clients to identify the appearance of new ad creative. The new system can accurately and automatically identify a new radio spot and its location within an hour of its initial appearance.
“Our clients need to act quickly to meet the competitive challenges of today’s business environment.” said Rick Denos, Senior VP of VMS. “Audible Magic’s systems help to meet our customers’ needs by accelerating the delivery and accuracy of critical competitive information from radio, which has been sorely lacking in the industry.”
The Audible Magic system provides a comprehensive solution to broadcast monitoring consisting of listening post software for remote monitoring, new creative content detection, centralized network management software, analyst workstations, and reporting systems. It utilizes the same, patented digital fingerprinting technology that has already proven successful for monitoring music. Audible Magic systems are in use by performing rights organization SESAC, monitoring radio stations to determine royalty payments to songwriters and publishers, and the CMJ Network with RAM (Real-Time Airplay Monitor), to identify new artists on college stations and assist with new artist development efforts for the recording industry. “This is a natural extension of our success in the music industry,” said Vance Ikezoye, CEO and founder of Audible Magic. “The system for ad monitoring utilizes our core, patented technologies for content identification to provide a range and immediacy of advertising information that was not possible with the use of manual methods.”
“We’re very excited about the prospect of delivering quantifiable improvements in productivity and timeliness to the clients of VMS services,” continued Denos. “The new system can provide our customers with more breadth and increased cost efficiency, and it delivers results to them in near-real-time, something we have not been able to offer before.”
