LOS GATOS, California — July 16, 2001 — Audible Magic Corporation, a developer and marketer of digital audio identification technologies and services headquartered in Los Gatos, California, today announced the company’s Clango product has won a Silver Award for Interactive Media Design from ID Magazine. Judged by a panel of internationally recognized leaders in the field of interactive design, the awards are presented annually in categories such as software applications, websites, and entertainment/games.
Clango uses Audible Magic’s patented fingerprinting technology to provide music identification services for consumers, electronically “listening” to music being played by an Internet radio station or Webcaster. Clicking on Clango’s ID button generates the name of the song being played, along with links leading to more information about the artist and album, and simple buying options. The product is available as a free download at the company’s website, www.audiblemagic.com.
The judges on the panel cited Clango’s “appropriate, concise and unobtrusive” design. They also noted the product’s “excellent…(and) intuitive” interface.
Interaction design for Clango was provided by IDEO, a world leader in the user-centered design of products, services, and environments. IDEO’s client list spans multiple industries, and includes market leaders such as Ford, Gillette, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Lucent, and Pepsi-Cola.
“We wanted Clango to be cool and easy to use,” said Vance Ikezoye, Audible Magic’s CEO and president. “IDEO helped us achieve both objectives. Clango helps users answer the age-old question, ‘What was that song,’ and have fun while they’re doing it.”
